The Duchess Bakes a Cake equals cinnamon rolls

This week we rowed The Duchess Bakes a Cake and had a blast! There is just something about reading a book written in rhyme. Most weeks when we row a book it is usually just Meike and I reading it. Occasionally Zoe will sit with us, which usually brings Jaxon over. Monday I had all 4 kids fighting to see the book. Zoe has begged me several times to buy her the book for her birthday! I'm so glad it's back in print!

When the Duchess decides to make a cake she went to work throwing what ever she could find into the cake batter and as the book said "Whatever she found she put into the batter, and what she left out really didn't much matter." She added a lot of yeast to the batter, which caused the cake to rise higher and higher. Yesterday I was reading FIAR archives (have I mentioned how much I love the suggestions on the archives?) for The Duchess Bakes a Cake and saw someones suggestion a little experiment by letting the kids throw flour, yeast, oil, salt and sugar in a bowl and see what comes of it. That is just what we did with the addition of water. What child wouldn't want to throw a bunch of ingredients in a bowl? The idea was to let it rise and rise. Ours didn't really rise very much at room temperature. I'm sure it didn't help that Zoe filled a clean drinking glass with cold filtered water from the refrigerator door instead of warm water. I decided to use the dough to make cinnamon rolls for this morning and not only did the rise nicely in the oven, they turned out very good! Meike and Zoe were very pleased with their rolls!

Wow! I'm impressed that you did that - and got great cinnamon rolls from it. What a fun lesson!

Blessings,
