Very Last First Time and Pointillism

The Five in a Row board has a wonderful collection of ideas in the archive section for all the FIAR titles. Whenever possible we try to include those ideas, as well as resources from HSS. Last week we rowed Very Last First Time, a book we really enjoyed. Meike worked through some of the lapbook activities from HSS during the week and then we ended the week with a pointillism art project out of Discovering Great Artists that was mentioned in the FIAR archives.

I purchased the Discovering Great Artist book and Storybook Art this past summer but I keep forgetting to pull it out. I was so excited to learn about George Seurat and try pointillism with the kids, especially since my screen saver is Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. We all had fun trying the techniques. Here are just a few of the pictures I took.

The book suggested to lightly draw your picture before you start your painting. I took this picture of Madeline's before she erased the pencil outline of her elephant.
