Goodbye 3rd and 5th graders....

hello k, 4th and 6th graders!

Today we finished off the year! I can not believe our 2nd consecutive year is over! I have found this past year to be a difficult one. Not just with school but with life in general. There were days were it was literally one foot in front of the other. We did what we needed to do and the girls did wonderful! I'm very proud of what they have accomplished.

Tonight we will be celebrating with a nice dinner together of steak, potatoes and green beans with lemonade to drink. We will follow it up with a desert we did not have a chance to make earlier this year, Boston cream pie. It smells wonderful!

One of the highlights from this past year was the camp out we had in our living room. We rowed Henry the Castaway by Mark Taylor a few months back and I thought it would be fun to have our own little camp out in our living room. We ate hamburger stew pockets and backpaker bars from the Five in a Row Cookbook. We enjoyed s'mores and a movie together. The kids still talk about it as a highlight of the year!

We also went on a few field trips. The highlight for me was our trip to the local aquarium. My one daughter has a lot of fears. It's hard to watch her get so upset about different things we encounter. We went last year too and both years we were able to experience the touch tank. Last year she was so scared she was trying to leave the room. This year she was right there, touching whatever she could! It was because of the lessons from Very Last First Time!

Finally, I wanted to share a picture Meike drew after our lessons with Night of the Moonjellies by Mark Shasha. I think she did a pretty good job of copying the cover of the book. What do you think?

Congrats Heidi on finishing your year! I love the Night of the Moonjellies picture Meike made! She did do a good job! That's really exciting about one of your girls overcoming her fear and how one of the fiar books took a part in that! Very special.

What a great pic of your kids camping in your living room! It looks like it came out of a picture book. Meike did a great job on her artwork! It sounds like you have had some really special moments in the midst of a difficult year.
